Cilantro – High Smoke Maine Coon Queen

How We Met

High Smoke Black Female Maine Coon

Parents: Sushi × Yeti

Cilantro is a stunning black smoke beauty! Her mom is Sushi and her dad is Yeti, and she’s already outgrowing her mother. Yeti has a way of producing big, impressive kittens, and Cilantro is no exception. She has the fluffiest, most dramatic tail and a look that says, “don’t mess with me.” She may appear fierce, but she’s actually one of the gentlest girls in our home.

The grandkids absolutely fell in love with her when she was a kitten, so I wasn’t allowed to let her go. Cilantro was born right in Celeste’s bedroom since her mom, Sushi, is Celeste’s cat. Celeste also kept Cilantro’s brother, Indi, who is now her neutered pet. It’s always hard to let kittens go, but Cilantro was definitely meant to stay.

🧡 Personality

Cilantro has such a sweet and snuggly personality. It’s easy to see why the family fell head over heels for her. She’s currently going through the usual hormonal changes that come with maturity, but even so, she remains soft, affectionate, and almost teddy bear, like in how she cuddles. She enjoys having her mom nearby, but she’s especially bonded with my granddaughter, Celeste. When it’s mealtime, Cilantro is one of the first to rush over for fresh food, and she’s always eager for attention and affection.

Health Tests:

Health Testing

Cilantro has been genetically tested through **Optimal Selection by Wisdom Panel and is clear for all diseases and genetic risks included in the panel, with one exception. She carries one copy of a known HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) genetic variant.

HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy – Genetic Variant)

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a complex heart condition influenced by multiple genetic and non-genetic factors. Currently, genetic testing is available for only two known variants (A31P and R820W) in the MYBPC3 gene, with the A31P variant being the one identified in the Maine Coon breed.

It is important to understand that genetic testing alone does not predict whether a cat will or will not develop clinical HCM. Cats that test clear can still develop the disease, which is why genetic results are never used in isolation. The gold standard for HCM screening remains the echocardiogram.

Cilantro carries a single copy of a known HCM variant. This result does not mean she has HCM, nor does it indicate that she will develop the disease. She is part of an ongoing cardiac monitoring program and is bred only to males who are genetically appropriate and routinely screened via echocardiogram. Cats carrying two copies of known HCM variants are not bred within our program.

Breeding & Transparency

Cilantro’s complete genetic results are available for review. Her carrier status is managed responsibly through informed pairing decisions, regular cardiac screening, and long-term health planning. Transparency and education are central to our breeding philosophy, and we are always happy to provide context or answer questions regarding genetic testing and heart health.
