How We Met
Sushi flew over from Moscow along with two other cats we had purchased at the time. These were our very first Maine Coons! She arrived in New York City, where our Russian couriers—who are based in the United States—personally drove our trio all the way to St. Louis, Missouri, where we lived then. Sushi was hand-delivered to my granddaughter Celeste, who was the biggest reason we became owners of this incredible breed. Despite her long journey, Sushi wasn’t fazed one bit. She settled in right away and connected with everyone immediately.
As one of our original cats, Sushi is now nearing retirement. She has blessed us with many stunning kittens over the years. One of my biggest regrets is not keeping one of her poly calico babies! She has produced some truly colorful litters, and we did keep two of her kittens that you may see on our website and social media. Cilantro is her daughter, and Indi is her son. Indi is a neutered male who Celeste has happily claimed as her own. It’s hard to tell the grandkids no when they pick a favorite and fall in love.
🧡 Personality
Sushi is one of the friendliest cats you will ever meet, but she definitely has a jealous streak. She prefers her alone time and doesn’t care much for sharing space with other cats. Sushi came to us during the COVID period, and to this day she still seems to believe in six feet of social distancing from her furry friends! Once she is spayed, I expect she’ll relax a bit, but she makes me laugh with how serious she looks when she swats at another cat that gets too close.
When it comes to her humans, though, Sushi loves them all. She is affectionate, loyal, and always makes us smile.

Health Testing
Sushi has been genetically tested through Optimal Selection by Wisdom Panel and is clear for all diseases and genetic risks included in the panel, with two exceptions. She carries one copy of PK-Def (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency) and one copy of a known HCM genetic variant.
PK-Def (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency)
PK-Def is an inherited, recessive condition that affects red blood cell function when two copies of the gene are present. Cats with only one copy are considered carriers and do not develop the disease or experience related health issues.
Sushi carries a single copy of PK-Def. Her health is not affected, and she will never develop this condition. When bred to a PK-Def clear male, she cannot produce affected kittens. Offspring may be genetically clear or carriers, but none will develop PK-Def. Carrier status does not impact quality of life or long-term health.
HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy – Genetic Variant)
Sushi also carries one copy of a known genetic variant associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM is a complex heart condition with multiple genetic and non-genetic factors. Currently, genetic testing is available for only two known variants (A31P and R820W) in the MYBPC3 gene, with the A31P variant being the one identified in Maine Coons.
It is important to understand that genetic testing alone does not predict whether a cat will or will not develop clinical HCM. Cats that test clear can still develop the disease, which is why genetic results are never used in isolation. The gold standard for HCM screening is the echocardiogram.
Sushi is part of an ongoing cardiac monitoring program and is bred only to males who are genetically appropriate and regularly screened via echocardiogram. Cats carrying two copies of known HCM variants are not bred within our program.
Breeding & Transparency
Sushi’s complete genetic results are available for review above. Her carrier statuses are managed responsibly through informed pairing decisions, regular cardiac screening, and long-term health planning. Transparency, education, and thoughtful breeding choices guide every decision we make.
